Workshop Design & Facilitation

Playing with complexity through embodied experience

Interactive workshop design and facilitation for teams navigating complexity, ambiguity, and change.

Team Maturity Self-Assessment

I design and facilitate interactive workshops that give teams practical tools: how to navigate complex systems, strengthen creative problem-solving, and build stronger collaborative relationships. Drawing on design thinking, scaled agile, product mindset, futures thinking, applied improv, and complexity science, I work as a neutral process holder. I am not an expert with answers, but someone who holds the space so the room can find its own.

I've facilitated roughly 100 events, on-site and remote, for small teams, teams of teams, departments, and full organizations — spanning animation and game development studios, enterprises, agencies working internally, and agencies delivering to their own healthcare, finance, and startup clients.

"I've already incorporated some of the wisdom from the workshop into my own creative problem solving. 'Working from abundance' being a novel, and extremely helpful way of thinking."

Anthony M, Non-Profit Director

Chad - you did a great job preparing and executing the Azure team norms. This level setting was highly needed and you focused right in on the type of facilitation approach that would engage the team. We left with a team morale boost, in addition!

Kelly O, Manager, Azure Team

"When can we do this again?"
"The storytelling exercises provided excellent insight, providing new ways to think about things from a different perspective."

Formats

In-Person — Full embodied experience; best for teams building trust, working through conflict, or tackling something that benefits from being physically in the room together.

Remote — Facilitated via Mural, or Miro and video since before it was standard practice. Full workshop design adapts fully to digital collaboration — not a downgraded version of the in-person experience.

Hybrid — Available on request. However, In my experience, hybrid sessions are harder for participants to engage with and learn from. Attention inevitably splits, and remote participants often end up as observers, not active participants. I'll design for hybrid if it's genuinely your only option, but I'll say so upfront if I think a different format would serve you better.

Engagement Types

Established Formats — Adaptations of workshops I've already built and run: role & responsibility clarity, team maturity assessments, futures thinking, applied improv fundamentals. Faster to scope, lower design fee, still tailored to your context.

Custom Design — A workshop built from scratch for your specific challenge, team, or moment. Includes discovery, custom exercise design, and materials built for your organization's language and context.

Extended Engagement — For department-wide rollouts (roles & responsibilities, maturity assessments): includes workshop delivery plus ongoing consultation as teams plan and execute the improvement activities that come out of it.

Consulting

Workshops create a moment. The real question is what happens after. I help teams identify leading indicators to track how workshop activities show up later in day-to-day work — things like:

  • Increased ability to identify and articulate patterns in complex situations
  • A rise in the number of novel ideas surfaced in regular brainstorming and planning
  • Positive shifts in team dynamics visible in engagement or satisfaction surveys

A single workshop can shift a team's energy for a while. Lasting change usually asks for more — a look at how the whole system is structured, not just how one room works together. If what surfaces in your workshop points to something bigger, that's where Where Light Gathers' organizational design work picks up.

Have a team or department wrestling with something hard to name? Let's talk about what a workshop could surface.
